A closing meeting was held on 15 and 16 November 2016 for presenting the final results of the project for Intercalibration of the methods for analysis of biological quality elements (BQE) for the types of surface waters on the territory of Bulgaria, corresponding to common European types in the Geographical Intercalibration Groups. Participants in the meeting included the full team of experts of the project, members of the MOEW Committee selected approving the results, representatives of the Basin Directorates and the Executive Environmental Agency. During the meeting the Bulgarian and Austrian experts from the Dicon – UBA Consortium presentered in detail the final results of the project, the developed and adapted methods, the assessment of the anthropogenic pressure, the pressure-impact relation, the statistical processing of the data, the proposed changes to the studied water bodies typologies, the Guidance for Identification and Designation of Heavily Modified Water Bodies (HMWB) and application of the requirements for defining Good Ecological Potential (GEP), the Programme for defining GEP. Presented and discussed were the team’s proposals for specific activities to be carried out after completion of the project.
The Intercalibration project is the most successful project for studying waters realized by the MOEW in recent years and its results received high appraisal from the EC (JRC and ECOSTAT). As a result of the implementation of the planned activities, Bulgaria fulfilled its obligations to the EC for the intercalibration of the methods for analysis of BQE for the types of surface waters on the territory of Bulgaria that correspond to common European types in the Geographical Intercalibration Groups.
