27.11.2013

The contract for implementation of the project for intercalibration of the methods for analysis of biological quality elements (BQE) for the types of surface waters on the territory of Bulgaria, corresponding to common European types in the Geographical intercalibration groups was signed on 26 November 2013 between the Ministry of Environment and Water of Bulgaria and Consortium “Dicon - UBA”.

Consortium “Dicon - UBA”, the winning bidder of the public tender, comprises Bulgarian company Dicon Group Ltd and the Austrian Environmental Agency (Umweltbundesamt Austria).

The intercalibration process is carried out for all types of surface waters identified as common for two or more countries implementing the Water Framework Directive (WFD). To this end, the European Commission started the so called “intercalibration exercise” in 2004, which goes through two phases and includes the implementation of this project.

The project will engage a team of established Bulgarian and international experts. Nine of them are the key experts, who are responsible for the individual biological quality elements – phytoplankton, phytobenthos, higher aquatic vegetation, macro-algae and seagrasses, macroinvertebrates, macrozoobenthos, fish fauna, as well as an expert in the field of surface water typology and statistician.

The duration of the contract is 36 months.
